Navigating Difficult End-of-Life Conversations
Having an end-of-life conversation is a challenging task for any nurse. Most people don’t want to talk about death, and in some cultures, this topic is considered taboo. However, these conversations are a routine part of the workday for some healthcare professionals. For example, hospice nurses provide end-of-life care and are responsible for letting the patient’s family know that death is near.
Nurses without training in this area can provide unrealistic expectations and deliver this information badly, leading to a traumatic experience for a patient and their family. Many people are not familiar with the loss of life, which is why it’s essential to learn how to facilitate these types of conversations.
In this course, you’ll learn about the stages of dying, perspectives on death, and a broad understanding of end-of-life conversations.
