Licensed Vocational Nurses
- LVNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
“Active Licensure: If you desire an “active” license, you must complete thirty (30) hours of CE. The course(s) must have been completed within two (2) years prior to the date of renewal of your license. ”
“First Renewal: If this is your first renewal following the issuance of your license, you are not required to complete thirty (30) hours of CE.”
Registered Nurses
- RNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- *NEW* As of January 2023 – Newly Licensed RNs are exempt from the 30 contact hour requirement with the exception of the 1 contact hour implicit bias training that is to be completed within their first two years of licensure per Bill AB1407 Chapter 445
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- APRNs with prescriptive authority are required to complete 3 contact hours on Schedule II controlled substances, and the risks of addiction
- Certified Nurse Midwives are required to complete 2 contact hours on Schedule II controlled substances and neonatal abstinence syndrome
- *New* As of January 2023 – Newly Licensed APRNs are exempt from the 30 contact hour requirement with the exception of the 1 contact hour implicit bias training that is to be completed within their first two years of licensure per Bill AB1407 Chapter 445
