Course Overview

Autism Spectrum Disorder: Care Disparities in Underserved Populations

Author: Edith Fomuso
RN, MSN, CCM, DPM

Autism Spectrum Disorder encompasses different severity levels of autism and the formerly known Asperger’s Syndrome. Although there have been advances in early diagnosis and treatment as there has been an increase in awareness among the public and healthcare professionals, there continues to be disparities in care in underserved populations. Often, children in these populations can be misdiagnosed or diagnosed later during their school years as opposed to before the age of three, when many early intervention programs are available.
