Course Overview

Ethics in Home Health

Author: Peggy Fossen DNP, RN, CNE

Home health nurses have a great deal of independence and flexibility. Many times, these nurses are the only health professionals in the home providing care and education to patients and families. On the contrary, nurses working in hospitals and other care facilities work amongst peers, other members of the care team, and managers/directors – individuals who can hold the nurse accountable for their practice. Because the home health nurse practices alone, observation by peers and managers isn’t always feasible. For this reason, home health nurses must be ethically aware and hold themselves accountable for their own practice. Designed for the LVN/LPN, RN, and APRN working in home health settings, this course will detail ethical principles and standards in home health nursing, serving as a guide for self-accountability in this setting.
