Course Overview

Intimate Partner Violence during Pregnancy

Author: Maura Buck, BSN, RN

This course will provide a comprehensive study of intimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy. This course will review who is at risk, the long-term effects of IPV on both the pregnant individual and fetus, screening tools for IPV, and prevalence. Learners will also have tools for recognizing IPV and implementing appropriate interventions. In addition, nurses completing this course will have an understanding of cultural competency, legal considerations, and referrals for their clients.

This course is recommended LPN/LVNs, RNs, and APRNs working in emergency departments, antepartum/prenatal care environments, labor and delivery, and postpartum units. Although these are the nursing care areas seeing the highest rate of pregnant clients, this course provides crucial information for any nurse who could treat a pregnant client.

Be aware, this course covers very difficult subject matter and can be upsetting to learn about. Take care as you work through the course.
