Unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) are an integral part of the healthcare continuum. These valuable members of the patient care team complete assignments and tasks that are delegated by nursing staff and range from assisting with activities of daily care to skilled tasks that require additional training once employed. As a delegate role, it is important for policy and procedure to clearly delineate the appropriate assignments and required competencies to ensure safety and conformity to scopes of practice.
