Snakebite Management and Treatment

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and management of snakebite envenomation. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized snakebite envenoming as a critical neglected tropical disease (NTD) and has initiated a roadmap aiming to halve the global burden by 2030.  

This course will delve into the classification of venomous snakes, the medical importance of various species, and the specific conditions caused by snake venom, which can lead to long-term physical and psychological impacts. 

The course highlights the development of antivenoms, the evidence-based first aid technique proven to hinder the spread of venom, and recent breakthroughs in antivenom research, such as the creation of an antibody capable of neutralizing the toxins in various snake venoms.
