Course Overview

Texas Human Trafficking Training

Author: Marybeth Anderson Keppler BSN, RN

This course is approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in accordance with the Texas Occupations Code as of December 20, 2023.

It is designed for healthcare providers practicing in the State of Texas. It is intended to highlight key demographics of human trafficking victims and perpetrators, and to identify red flags that may be indicators of trafficking. Additionally, response and follow-up to this situation is discussed, as are resources available at the state and federal levels. Throughout the course, the practitioner will review concepts of trauma-informed, patient-centered care when dealing with these vulnerable populations often seen in healthcare settings.

This course was developed with the one-hour consultation of a survivor of human trafficking. This partnership was made possible through the Survivor Alliance Network at https://www.survivoralliance.org/ (45). Engagement with a survivor has ensured that this training is patient-centered and trauma-informed.
