1. What are the 2024 New York State nursing license renewal CE requirements?
Nurses who graduated from a New York State Education Department nursing education program before Sept. 1, 1990, must complete a two-hour course on child abuse reporting before they are issued a license.
They must also complete NYSED-approved infection control coursework every four years. Nurses who can verify that they completed infection-control coursework in the past four years that met minimum state requirements can apply for an exemption.Â
Nursing CE Central provides both courses, which the New York Board of Nursing accepts for license renewals.
Nursing CE Central’s New York Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.
Nursing CE Central’s New York APRN Bundle includes APRN license renewal CE.
APRNs with DEA registration are required to complete at least three contact hours of continuing education every three years.
The contact hours must cover all of the following topics:
- New York State and federal requirements for prescribing controlled substances
- Pain management
- Appropriate prescribing
- Managing acute pain
- Palliative medicine
- Prevention, screening, and signs of addiction
- Responses to abuse and addiction
- End-of-life care
APRNs without DEA registration have no specific continuing education requirements at this time.
